Reporting a lost item to the police

Officer: Hello, what can I do for you?

You: Hi. I'd like to report a lost bag, please. I think I left it on a bus last night.

Officer: Okay. Have you checked with the bus company?

You: Yes, I called them this morning, but nobody's handed it in. And my insurance company said I need a police report.

Officer: Right. Can you tell me roughly when and where you lost it?

You: It was on the number 18, around half past nine last night. I got off at the university stop, and I realised about ten minutes later.

Officer: Can you describe the bag?

You: It's a black backpack, medium-sized, with a small Uzbek flag badge on the front pocket.

Officer: And what was inside?

You: My laptop, it's a silver MacBook, my student ID card, a couple of notebooks and a charger.

Officer: Do you know the serial number of the laptop?

You: I think I've got it in an email from when I bought it. I can send it to you, if that helps.

Officer: Yes, please. I'll give you a reference number. Quote that when you contact us or your insurer.

You: Great. And if it turns up, how will you contact me?

Officer: We'll call or email you. Make sure the details are right here.

You: Okay, everything looks right. Thanks a lot for your help.
