Interview for a part-time job

Manager: Thanks for coming in. So, tell me a bit about yourself.

You: Sure. I'm Jasur, I'm doing a master's here in Data Science. Before that I worked in IT for a few years, back in Uzbekistan.

Manager: Okay. Have you ever worked in a café or in customer service before?

You: Not in a café, no. But in my last job I dealt with clients a lot, often when they were quite stressed about a problem. So I'm used to staying calm and polite under pressure.

Manager: That's useful. Can you give me an example of dealing with a difficult customer?

You: Yeah. Once a client called because their system was down during a big sale. He was pretty angry. I just listened first, apologised, and then explained exactly what we were doing and when it'd be fixed. By the end, he actually thanked me.

Manager: Nice. And what's your availability like?

You: I'm free on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and all day at weekends. Up to fifteen or so hours a week, because of my course and my visa conditions.

Manager: That's fine, we mostly need weekend cover. Have you got any questions for me?

You: Yes, a couple. Is there any training at the start? I've never actually used a coffee machine like that.

Manager: Ha, don't worry, everyone gets two training shifts.

You: Great. And when would you expect to make a decision?

Manager: By the end of the week.

You: Perfect. Thanks very much for your time, I'd really enjoy working here.
